For many patients, endometriosis begins as unexplained painful periods, years before a diagnosis arrives.
It isn’t just bad periods. It’s a complex inflammatory and hormonal condition that affects the whole body, and whole-body care is exactly what it requires. At Senuri, we offer complementary support for every stage of endometriosis: pain, hormonal regulation, nervous system support, fertility, and recovery.
What we see
Endometriosis affects an estimated one in ten women, yet the time from first symptoms to diagnosis is often measured in years. In that time, many patients move through appointments and investigations before answers arrive.
The pain that’s disproportionate to what imaging shows. The fatigue that compounds everything. The digestive symptoms that seem unrelated. The anxiety that builds around each cycle. The fertility concerns that arrive alongside the diagnosis.
Acupuncture works in that space, not as a replacement for gynecological care, but as a complementary layer of support that addresses what endometriosis does to the whole body, not just the reproductive system.

How acupuncture supports endometriosis
Pain Regulation and Nervous System Sensitization
Endometriosis pain isn’t simply a function of lesion size or location. It’s also driven by central sensitization, where the nervous system becomes chronically heightened in its pain response. This is why endometriosis pain can persist even after surgical removal of lesions, and why it affects the whole body rather than just the pelvis. Acupuncture has been shown to modulate pain signaling through the central and peripheral nervous system, reducing sensitization, influencing the body’s own endogenous opioid pathways, and supporting its natural pain-regulation mechanisms. For many endometriosis patients, this is one of the most meaningful areas of support acupuncture can offer.
Inflammation and Immune Regulation
Endometriosis is fundamentally an inflammatory condition, characterized by elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines, immune dysregulation, and an inflammatory environment that drives both pain and progression. Acupuncture has been shown to reduce systemic inflammatory markers, modulate immune function, and support the body’s anti-inflammatory response. Acupuncture cannot remove endometrial lesions, but it can support the inflammatory environment in which they develop, which is clinically meaningful and increasingly recognized in the research.
Hormonal Regulation and Cycle Support
Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent condition, which means hormonal balance plays a direct role in managing it. Acupuncture influences the HPO axis, which can support a more balanced estrogen and progesterone signaling and help regulate ovulation. For patients managing endometriosis alongside hormonal contraception or other medical treatment, acupuncture works complementarily, supporting the body’s broader hormonal environment rather than interfering with existing treatment.
Nervous System Regulation and Stress Response
Living with a chronic pain condition is itself a significant stressor, and stress directly amplifies the endometriosis pain experience through cortisol’s effect on inflammatory tone and pain sensitization. Acupuncture has well-documented effects on HPA axis regulation, cortisol reduction, and parasympathetic activation which all support a calmer, more regulated nervous system. For endometriosis patients who find that stress worsens their symptoms, this isn’t coincidence. It’s physiology, and it’s something we can help with.
Digestive and Bladder Support
Endometriosis commonly affects the digestive and urinary systems, whether through direct involvement or through the shared inflammatory and nervous system pathways that connect them. Bloating, IBS-like symptoms, constipation, and bladder sensitivity are frequently reported alongside endometriosis. Acupuncture supports gut motility, eases visceral hypersensitivity, and addresses the gut-brain axis dysregulation that underlies many of these symptoms, offering meaningful complementary support alongside gastroenterological and urological care.
Fertility Support
Endometriosis is one of the leading causes of impaired fertility, affecting ovarian reserve, tubal function, implantation, and the overall hormonal and inflammatory environment of conception. At Senuri, we offer dedicated fertility support for patients with endometriosis, addressing the systemic factors that influence conception alongside your reproductive medical team.
Pre- and Post-Surgical Support
Many endometriosis patients undergo laparoscopic surgery, for diagnosis, excision, or both. Acupuncture can support the body before and after. Beforehand, it supports nervous system regulation, eases anxiety, and helps prepare the body’s inflammatory environment ahead of the procedure. Afterward, with appropriate surgical clearance, it supports tissue healing, eases post-surgical inflammation, and addresses the pain and hormonal fluctuations that often follow.
The Emotional Dimension
Endometriosis carries an emotional weight that’s rarely fully acknowledged: years of symptoms before answers arrive, the unpredictability of pain, the impact on relationships, work, quality of life, and the grief that can accompany fertility challenges. At Senuri, we treat the whole person, and that includes everything you’ve had to carry. We work in close coordination with mental health providers and approach this part of care with the seriousness it deserves.
The Eastern Medicine Framework
In East Asian medicine, the pain and pathology of endometriosis correspond closely to what’s known as blood stasis: blood that isn’t moving as it should. It congeals and causes fixed, stabbing pain, clots, and the buildup of tissue where it doesn’t belong. Often this stasis is compounded by cold or qi stagnation, and the specific combination differs from person to person. Treatment works to move what’s stagnant, warm what’s cold, and restore free, healthy flow through the pelvis.
Working alongside your care team
Senuri is a complement to gynecological care, never a replacement for it.
We work in coordination with gynecologists, reproductive endocrinologists, pelvic floor physical therapists, gastroenterologists, and mental health providers across New York City. Endometriosis calls for a multidisciplinary approach, and acupuncture works naturally within that team.
What to expect
Your first visit is a 90-minute consultation.
We review your full endometriosis history, diagnosis, surgical history, current symptoms, hormonal treatment, cycle patterns, and fertility goals where relevant, alongside your broader health picture: stress, sleep, digestion, bladder health, emotional state, and lifestyle.
For active pain management, more regular treatment early on is often most helpful, easing in frequency as symptoms respond. For fertility support, we generally recommend beginning a few months before trying to conceive, and our fertility page has a fuller overview.
There’s no wrong time to start. Whether you’re newly diagnosed, years into managing endometriosis, or preparing for surgery, we begin where you are.
