Fertility & reproductive health
# Fertility is not just a reproductive issue. *It's a whole-body one.*
Conception depends on a complex web of systems: hormonal balance, stress response, cycle regularity, uterine blood flow, ovarian function, and sperm health. When any part of that web is off, the whole picture is affected. At Senuri, this work is clinical, specific, and built around your timeline, whether you're trying to conceive naturally, alongside fertility treatment, or as a couple seeking support for both partners.

What we see The path to conception is rarely straightforward, and for many patients in New York City, it unfolds alongside excellent, highly clinical fertility care. Acupuncture works in the spaces around that care.
Between the appointments. Between the cycles. Between the retrieval and the transfer. Between the hope and the uncertainty.
Not as a replacement for reproductive medicine, but as a complementary layer of support that cares for the whole person.
Acupuncture can meaningfully influence several of the physiological factors that matter for fertility: cortisol regulation, uterine blood flow, HPO axis function, endometrial receptivity, and sperm quality. These effects are real and clinically significant. And going through fertility treatment in a body that feels supported, regulated, and cared for is different from going through it without that. Both matter.
Both matter.

How acupuncture supports fertility
### Hormonal Regulation and the HPO Axis
The hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis governs the hormonal cascade that drives follicle development, ovulation, and the luteal phase. Acupuncture may influence GnRH pulsatility and hormonal signaling along the HPO axis, supporting more regular ovulation and a more robust luteal phase. For patients with PCOS, acupuncture has been associated with reductions in elevated LH:FSH ratios and lower androgen levels, supporting ovulation in patients who have been anovulatory.

### Uterine Blood Flow and Endometrial Receptivity
Adequate uterine blood flow is essential for endometrial lining development and implantation. Acupuncture has been found in Doppler ultrasound studies to improve uterine artery blood flow, a finding with direct implications for endometrial thickness and receptivity. For patients with thin lining, poor response to estrogen priming, or previous implantation failure, supporting uterine circulation is an important focus of treatment at Senuri.

### Stress, Cortisol, and Reproductive Suppression
The relationship between stress and fertility is not only psychological, but also physiological. Elevated cortisol can suppress GnRH, disrupt the LH surge, and create a hormonal environment less conducive to conception. And the experience of undergoing fertility treatment, the financial pressure, the appointments, the emotional weight of each cycle, is itself a significant stressor. Acupuncture has demonstrated meaningful effects on HPA axis regulation and cortisol regulation. Treating the stress response is not ancillary to fertility support at Senuri. It is essential to it.

### Egg Quality and the Follicular Environment
Acupuncture cannot change egg quality itself; eggs are genetically fixed. But the environment in which follicles develop over the roughly 90 days before ovulation or retrieval is influenced by circulation, inflammation, oxidative stress, and hormonal signaling, all of which acupuncture can meaningfully affect. Therefore, we often recommend beginning fertility acupuncture at least three months before a planned IVF retrieval or natural conception attempt.

### Sperm Health and Male Fertility
Fertility is a two-person picture, and acupuncture has a meaningful role to play for male partners as well. Research suggests acupuncture may support sperm quality through improved testicular circulation, reduced oxidative stress, and hormonal regulation, with some studies showing improvements in sperm count, motility, and morphology. For couples where male fertility is a consideration, or for male partners wanting to optimize ahead of conception, Senuri offers dedicated support.

### IVF Support, Before and After Transfer
The research on acupuncture and IVF outcomes is growing and nuanced. Several widely cited meta-analyses suggest that acupuncture performed around the day of embryo transfer may improve clinical pregnancy rates, though the evidence is still evolving. What is more consistent is that acupuncture reduces anxiety and cortisol in the IVF context, supports uterine blood flow, and encourages the parasympathetic state most conducive to implantation.
Working alongside your fertility team
## Senuri is a complement to reproductive medicine, never a replacement for it.
We coordinate with reproductive endocrinologists, fertility clinics, OB-GYNs, and urologists across New York City, timing treatments to align with your protocol through stimulation, retrieval, transfer, and the two-week wait. We never recommend delaying or forgoing conventional fertility care in favor of acupuncture alone.
If you're not yet connected with a fertility clinic and are unsure of next steps, we're glad to help you think through the landscape and point you toward established providers.

What to expect at Senuri Your first visit is a 90-minute consultation, where we review your full reproductive history and broader health picture. For couples, we look at both partners where relevant.

### Recommended timelines
For natural conception support We recommend beginning at least three months before you start trying when possible, covering one full cycle of egg (and sperm) development.

For IVF preparation We recommend beginning as early as possible before retrieval, with weekly treatment during stimulation and targeted treatment on or around the day of transfer.

For patients mid-cycle or mid-protocol We begin where you are. There is no wrong time to start.

Frequency adjusts based on your cycle phase, protocol timing, and how your body is responding.
This may be right for you if
- You're trying to conceive naturally and want to support your cycle and overall readiness
- You're a male partner, or a couple, wanting to support sperm health and conception together
- You've been told everything looks normal, but conception hasn't happened
- You're preparing for IVF, IUI, or another assisted reproductive technology and want support alongside your protocol
- You've experienced recurrent pregnancy loss and want to address the systemic factors that may be contributing
- You have PCOS, endometriosis, low ovarian reserve, or another condition affecting fertility
- You're recovering after a loss or a failed cycle and want support returning to baseline

## Wherever you are in your journey, *we're here for you.*
